Women have featured prominently in the story of Wilton House near Salisbury for over a thousand years. They range from abbesses like St Edith, numerous countesses of Pembroke (Mary Sidney being the most prominent) and Oscar-winning actress, Olivia Colman, who filmed extensively at Wilton when portraying Elizabeth II in The Crown. Wilton was also an important place in the life of others who became local (Edith Olivier) or international (Florence Nightingale) luminaries.
