++ Reflecting on 1969: Britain Thrusts into the Space Age ++

Surrey author Neil Mach curated a successful one-day pop-up exhibition in the summer of 2024, focusing on the transformative year of 1969.

Building upon the success of this show, the popular public speaker now presents a captivating & thought-provoking reflection on 1969: the year that propelled Britain into the space age: Reflecting on 1969: Britain Thrusts into the Space Age — an illustrated slideshow talk.

In 1969, British society fearlessly stepped into the space era, shedding an Imperial past and postwar sombreness in the process.

But what was a typical British citizen's life like in the final year of the 'swinging sixties'?

With a cheerful approach to the topic, the speaker examines the impact of the moon landings and other space-age technical advances on everyday suburban life in 1969, revealing their significant and palpable consequences.

Through artefacts, memorabilia, clippings, souvenirs, and cherished memories, the author vividly portrays the late 1960s in an engaging slideshow.

"...If you recall the late 1960s, this talk is sure to reignite lots of cherished memories..."

For those who didn’t live through the late sixties, this presentation will help audiences observe, evaluate, and commemorate what it must have been like to experience such a lifechanging and transcendent year.

But, for those that lived through the period, join the speaker as he reminds audiences of:

  • What we ate in 1969

  • What we wore in 1969

  • What we bought at the shops in 1969

  • What sounds we listened to in 1969

  • What we watched in 1969

++++++++++++++++

Depending on audience size & requirements, the speaker will tailor his talk to either 30 minutes, or 40 minutes.

The speaker will bring along souvenirs & artefacts from the period that can be shared around groups, and will help facilitate discussion and aid memory collection.

Although all age-groups will benefit from the enlightening and thought-provoking content, Neil's talk is particularly well-suited to senior audiences.
