• John Lilburne, (1614-1657) Freeborn John, Leveller leader in English Revolution (Civil War), • Tom Paine, (1737-1809) key figure in American War of Independence, best selling writer, participant in French Revolution. • Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) chemist, discoverer of oxygen, inventor of fizzy drinks, philosopher, founder of Unitarianism. • J. G. Graves (1866-1945) His Legacy to Sheffield, a man whose name is attached to so many parks and buildings. • Bert Trautmann (1923-2013) from Nazi sympathiser and paratrooper to PoW, to Division One goalkeeper.
