With Christmas coming, Tony takes a look at the historical background to some of our favourite Christmas traditions – trees, mistletoe, yule logs and, especially, Christmas Carols and songs, with plenty of singalong opportunities for the audience.

Educated at Highgate School. Tony started his career in advertising in 1965 as a mail boy in the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency. Having worked his way up to Account Director over a period of 10 years, he then moved on to a number of Agencies until he set up his own in 1985, primarily to handle the Guinness account in Africa and the Caribbean, where he produced many campaigns and commercials over a period of 15 years. He remains active in the industry, but now concentrates on more philanthropic projects, particularly producing an educational film in the rural villages of Nigeria for the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and more recently completing a sanitation project in Haiti after it was devastated by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.For many years he has been a member of, and more recently, an accredited Lecturer for the Arts Society. His other experience includes presenting to marketing groups, sales conferences and students of creative advertising in the UK and overseas. He lectures to Arts Societies and U3As in the UK and Europe. Married with 5 grown-up children, Tony lives in Wittersham, Kent. Hobbies include tennis, golf, cricket as well as playing guitar and choral singing in Church and Chamber Choirs.
