I have relatives who lived in the Channel islands throughout the German occupation, one of whom was posthumously given an award by the State of Israel for saving the life of a Jewish Channel Island resident. Another relative was interred in a Prisoner of war camp in Germany for being married to a person born on mainland UK. Through talking to them about their experiences, together with my additional research on the period, I am able to give an interesting, informative talk on this period of history of which many people may have little prior knowledge and may be interested to learn more.
Views: 115 | Enquiries: 0I am a retired Chartered Surveyor. Since retiring I have joined the local U3A, learnt to play Bridge, taken some casual work at Windsor castle and generally enjoyed the freedom to travel extensively, both within the UK in my Motorhome and further afield, including Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, USA, Thailand, Japan, South America , Canada and Alaska. I have a particular interest in all Historical events. I find as I get older that History is far more interesting than just a series of dates and facts, as we were taught in school so many years ago. I prefer to look at the events that took place through the stories of the people who lived through them. Just as events taking place today will become our stories of the future
