Georgina (1757 - 1806) was born into the Spencer family, She moved from Althorp in Northamptonshire to Spencer House, when she was seven years old. She suffered the loss of two of her siblings, which resulted in Georgina becoming overprotective of her younger siblings and also becoming very sensitive to criticism and anxious to please. She married the Fourth Duke of Devonshire when she was only sixteen. Sadly it was not a close relationship and the Duke had numerous affairs over time. Georgina became known as the "Empress of Fashion", adopting a flamboyant style, wearing ostrich feathers in her hats and the colours blue and buff, as she supported the Whig Party. A menage a trois developed between herself, her husband, and Elizabeth Foster. She also had a passionate affair with Lord Grey, having a child which she had to give away, to continue to see her own children with the Duke. Only at the end of her life did she seem to flower into the person she yearned to be, leaving her heartbroken children to mourn her passing. Her life is portrayed by Kiera Knightley in "The Duchess." This is a PowerPoint presentation, lasting 50-60 minutes. Questions are welcome.

I have researched various subjects including a local medieval Manor House where I am a volunteer guide. I have also researched the details about the Russell family who lived there and who now live at Woburn Abbey. I have researched the plague cottages/pestilence houses over many years and give PowerPoint presentations about them. They were used for isolation purposes from the fifteenth century and I link their use with public health issues today. I have a book published about the plague cottages and the history of medicine. I am a guide at Kensington Palace. I have a talk about the Palace. My most recent talk is about Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire, who was a real Georgian influencer.
