Heading off for my Prostate Cancer examination I was well aware that this was something I should be taking seriously because this cancer had already killed two men in my street and its not that big a street!

This is the bitter sweet story of of how my wife and I dealt with the challenge (I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in June 2020), the treatments that I had over the next two years and some of the people I met before receiving the phone call from my Consultant in May 2022 to tell me that I was in remission.

It turned out to be a busy year. Less than four months later on the day the Queen died I had a heart attack followed a month later by quadruple heart by-pass surgery.

By now you might be thinking "Where's the laughs in this lot then"? Don't blame you but they were there. It is often said that "laughter is the best medicine". I can report that even in the most difficult of circumstances the British sense of humour is alive and well and available free on the NHS. I want to share some of my patient experience with you because I think it may help others facing similar difficulties. Don't worry no slides involved and the waiting list is very short.

About Terry The Speaker: Terry grew up on a council estate in the sun drenched fishing village of Stoke-On Trent. This was followed by a combination of military service and a long business career in the horticultural sector which amongst other things involved him with projects at 10 Downing Street, Buckingham Palace and the Homes of Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Elton John, David Beckham and many more.

He has visited Buckingham Palace on more than one occasion to advise a Senior Member of the Royal Family and regularly collaborated with television presenters. He once made a film with Susan Hampshire (okay it was only a promotional video but it still counts in his mind!).

Terry served on the boards of several companies as a Sales and Marketing Director. Experience with corporate clients included prestigious sporting venues as diverse as St Andrews, Carnoustie, The Amsterdam Arena, Chelsea Football Club and Wentworth have added colour and depth to Terrys track record. Giving him many a tale to tell.

In addition to regular Pre and Post Lunch Speeches, After Dinner Speaking and Master of Ceremonies Engagements Terry recently added Eulogies to his speaking portfolio. This followed his "Mortality Awareness Course" or as the Heart Surgeon preferred to call it a Quadruple Heart By-Pass Operation.

Having worked in Senior Management positions for many years Terry built a very successful track record in Sales and Business Development. During this time he personally concluded national agreements with Plc’s such as Wyevale Garden Centres, Travis Perkins and Jewson whilst maintaining and developing business with leading independent Builders Merchants such as E.H. Smith, JT Dove and Chandlers Building Supplies.

In the Public sector he has worked closely with The Health and Safety Executive, The Funded Learning Community, The DWP and Leeds City Council.
