Sam Horton is an author living in Cornwall, whose debut novel 'Gorse' will be published in autumn 2024 by Solaris.

Sam trained as a costume designer, working in that industry before moving into illustration and fine art. It was during his exploration of narrative in his work that he discovered a talent for writing, beginning in earnest in 2018.

There was a great deal to learn, and in this talk, he will explain how he wrote the book, gained an agent and publishing deal, and the steps needed to bring an idea through from draft to published book in the modern publishing world.

About Sam Horton

After training as a costume designer at Wimbledon School of Art, Sam worked in film, theatre and opera for several years before moving into fine art and illustration.

His practice in recent years focused on narrative and folklore, eventually leading him to write a book, Gorse, a historical fantasy set in Cornwall in the 18th century.

He was signed by John Baker and Julie Gourinchas at the Bell, Lomax Morton agency in 2022, and Gorse and its sequel Ragwort was acquired by Solaris Publishing in 2023, to publish late 2024.

He has several books in the works.
