Viking Voices is my first novel and describes the adventures of a group of Hiberno-Norse Vikings in Ireland and England in the Tenth century culminating in the burial of the Cuerdale Hoard, the largest Viking treasure ever found in Western Europe. My research into the history of the Cuerdale Hoard includes the Norse raids and invasions of Ireland and Britain (there's no such place as England at this time.) In particular, it centres on the expulsion of the Norse from Dublin in 902AD and the impact this has on areas around the Irish Sea. Events in the novel are told through the mouths of Amleth, his wife Aud and his "boss" King Ragnald.

About Paul Atherton

I hold two degrees: a B.Sc. in Business Administration from University of Bath and an M.A. in Creative Writing from Lancaster University.

Since retiring from my role as Director of Human Resources I now devote my time to writing and public speaking. I have two published novels: Viking Voices and Billy's War. The former describes the adventures of a group of Hiberno-Norse Vikings in Ireland and England in the Tenth century culminating in the burial of the Cuerdale Hoard. The latter is set in Palestine during the final years of the British Mandate 1945 to 48.

In both cases I offer a presentation which describes the actual history behind the novels in a light hearted manner.
