In this country we mark Remembrance Day on or around the eleventh of November every year. Many other countries around the world do the same. But there are many places where November 11th has no special significance. So what happens there? And why? And when? Are their customs similar to ours? The answers to these questions form the basis of my talk on Remembrance Day in Other Countries which includes thumb-nail sketches of commemorative events in some ten countries, sometimes on or near November 11th, sometimes not, plus Australia, Holland, Poland and Japan in greater detail. Most are based on personal visits. Commonwealth war graves also get a mention and I finish with a brief history of the red poppy and the not-so-well-known white peace poppy. My talk has been well received by numerous Rotary clubs, Probus groups and WIs plus several National Trust associations and U3As. My fees are donated to a different charity each year.
