An introduction to their tumultuous life and her early death by suicide. Hughes is regarded as the best British poet of the later 20th Century. Plath holds the same position in American Poetry. This 'powerhouse' was always going to be challenging, but both truly believed that 'love would find a way'.

I will illustrate from the poetry, always highly confessional in the case of Plath, far less so in the case of Hughes - until the 1998 publication of 'The Birthday Letters' - the most successful poetry collection of the century.
