Women in Khaki explores the contribution of women of the Auxiliary Territorial Service to the British war effort in WWII. Using personal stories gathered from surviving members and their families. Women in Khaki highlights the everyday acts of heroism performed by these ladies in service to their country. We will discuss the actions of Sgt Barbara Bowers of 473 Heavy Anti Artillery battery which protected the citizens of Sunderland, the crucial of the ladies of the Y stations in gathering intelligence as well the key domestic and administrative roles that were key to the war effort as a whole.
The talk is illustrated by PowerPoint using photographs, diary entries and letters. I was lucky enough to give this talk to the visitors oft he National Army Museum in London.
