King Alfred's Way circles its way round some of the most historic landscapes of the old kingdom of Wessex. Starting in Winchester, it passes Stonehenge and Avebury, travels along the Ridgeway National Trial and then heads south through the Surrey hills before turning back to Winchester along the South Downs. With only six weeks to train, would I be fit enough to complete this epic off-road cycle? Would my 45-year friendship with my cycling companion survive the challenge? Hear tales of adventure, friendship and lessons learnt from the start of my training to completing the 217-mile King Alfred’s Way.
