Drawn from my experience of three powerful Teachers, my talk falls within the category Spiritual; meaning the field of human interest that concerns our desire to know ourselves. The talk is neither religious, nor evangelical, nor esoteric. Instead, I start by noting that human beings are different, before attempting to categorize some traditional spiritual approaches such as Scholarship and Devotion. After establishing that different approaches suit different people I move to my talk’s particular approach, and its central subject: spiritual enlightenment. I first explain what enlightenment is (the inversion of the relationship between experience and awareness), then describe what it’s like to be enlightened, before saying that people … being different … respond to enlightenment differently. The character of my talk is, I hope and believe, pragmatic and convivial.

Raised in England’s Home Counties, I attended local state schools before receiving a degree in geography from London University. My adult life has had two tracks: I have been a self-employed carpenter/builder, and I have travelled my spiritual path with great dedication. That path took me to Andrew Cohen, a demanding and controversial spiritual figure. I was one of his students for over 20 years and I will always be grateful for his immutable expression of spiritual freedom. After his community dissolved in 2013, his reputation was traduced on social media. Contrastingly, in 2021, I published my first book, Invoking the Authentic Self, which describes and explains the community’s pioneering work. I now live in London, where I'm working on my next book.
