The US manned lunar exploration program is one of the great feats of exploration, program management, scientific development and most of all, tremendous guts and focus under pressure of the last 100 years.

In this presentation you’ll hear about the connections from the US Manned Lunar Exploration program to ...

From the 1950s - animal cruelty, men’s fashion

From the 1960s – light planes, corporate metrics, women’s empowerment, basketball, the McCormick car, chemistry, the Bible, Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters, cricket, freight infrastructure, Elvis, the importance to NASA of felt tip pens and duct tape

From the 1970s – the importance of taking spare underwear with you when on a long trip, Sir Isaac Newton and Galileo, golf, heavy metal music, lawlessness, and government budgeting

About John McCormick

I've recently retired and one of the things I'm looking forward to is to spend more time speaking and telling stories. I regularly give talks in my local village in the Cotswolds, the fabulous Hook Norton. These talks have ranged from the history of Bletchley Park to the Apollo space programme, to the history of flight to the story of how they solved how to measure Longitude. I'm happy to give these talks to other groups, or to research and then speak on a topic of interest to groups.
