This talk details Jimmy Curran's incredible life, from his birth in Galashiels in 1880.

It takes in his time as a soldier in the Boer War, his amateur and professional athletics career, his emigration to the United States and hiring as coach under the legendary Mike Murphy.

The talk looks at the training of his five gold medal-winning Olympians, and the numerous others he trained to athletic greatness.

It also focuses on his self-set challenges (such as playing 290 holes of golf in one day) and his relationship with his students.

About Craig Statham

Since graduating from Edinburgh and St Andrews universities, Craig Statham has worked in the heritage sector for 20 years.

In that time he has written six books, four of which were local history-related, and two biographies - one on Bruce Springsteen, the other on the Scottish athletics coach, Jimmy Curran.

An experienced public speaker, he gives 10-15 talks a year, on a variety of subjects.
