What would persuade a Norfolk grandma to put down her knitting, leap astride a thundering great motorcycle and head over the Alps to Romania and Bulgaria? Turns out it’s a love of children, a desire to meet a sponsored child and provide support for a children’s charity.

As that grandma’s husband, who had to jump on his own motorbike and try to keep up, I can report that riding through Eastern Europe is not for the faint hearted. Besides atrocious roads, unsafe vehicles and suicidal driving, summer storms can be seriously life-threatening. Sixty-two people died from the storm that hit Bucharest, Romania’s capital, as we tried to negotiate its broken roads and terrifying traffic, yet somehow we survived to tell the tale.

Ride with us on the Road to Hell, into the City of Nightmares and beyond. Join us for an inadvertent night in a Romanian brothel! Laugh with us at the absurdities of life on the road. Hop on board for the adventure of a lifetime… and hold on tight!

This is an illustrated 40-60 minute Power Point presentation.

About Bob Goddard

Formerly a journalist and businessman, I am now an author and publisher. I’ve travelled to the farthest corners of the world and even to the Moon (!) to research my books and talks. My wife, Viv, accompanies me on most of these epic adventures, riding a motorbike of her own and emerging as the heroine of the story. For my Moon mission I narrowly avoided being shot into space by calling on experts from NASA and Moscow instead.

My talks are all Power Point presentations and I use 60 illustrations or more in each talk. The Mother Moon talk is also available as a stand-alone if required (see below). As most venues now have IT screens, I no longer provide my own projection equipment, but hook my laptop to your system. Talks usually last between 40 and 60 minutes and can be split for a tea break if required. I’m happy to provide a Q&A session at the end of the talk. I also bring along some books and support materials, so a display table would be welcomed for these.

  • STAND ALONE: I can also provide an unsupported stand-alone talk for Mother Moon. It can be anything from 30-60 minutes long, as required.

  • SHORT NOTICE: I’m often available at short notice, so give me a call if you are stuck.

  • NORFOLK: I rarely give talks outside my home county.

  • FULLY VACCINATED: I have had all my covid jabs.
