Views: 1307 | Enquiries: 2I have been interested in history for many years and in particular my own family. This has led to myself self-publishing a biography of my great grandfather George Piercy, who was a missionary in China from 1851 to 1883. His was a fascinating life, which is why I am enthusiastic to talk about him. My book is entitled "A Life Remembered".
My Talks also include the importance of the missionary women in China, and their hardships and tragedies whilst trying to improve the lives of Chinese women, these are true accounts of life in Canton in 1853, which covers the short life of my great grandmother Jane Piercy. I have also written a book on this subject and the book is entitled "For the Love of China".
I have lived near York for over 30 years with my husband. We are now retired and so have time for our various interests. Mine, vary from singing in the York University Choir, belonging to Societies such as the Art Society of York and of course researching history. When I am not too busy with my various pursuits, I enjoy riding near Boltby, walking and travelling, hence my Talk on the Silk Road, which is marvellously illustrated with the fantastic architecture. I have three children, all now grown up, and three grandchildren, two in Australia and one recent one on the other side of the Pennines.
I illustrate my Talks with slides, many of an historic nature. I also like to bring many items which have been in the family for over 100 years, such as silk jackets, ornaments and well used Tea Caddy.
