Details of talks given by Patricia Seaton
I am a midwife with a special interest in supporting women in low resource environments. Hamlin Fistula UK works with women in Ethiopia who have suffered devasting birth injuries to rebuild their lives and rejoin their communities. Hospital care, recovery and business training enable women who had lost everything to live again. Ethiopia is a huge country with very limited healthcare and ongoing internal conflict, making access to healthcare even harder.
Kudimba and Sandulika UK work in Malawi with vulnerable children and young people, who have special needs, health conditions or complex backgrounds. The daycare centre offers nutrition, education, therapeutic activities and recreation. The aim is to expand this to offer training opportunities to young adults, so that they can develop independence and earn a living in one of the poorest countries in the world.
