Biography:

My talk is about strokes and their effects. Living and managing the effects on a day to day basis.

I can expand into other areas like disability inclusion and hate through to STEM

I was 37 years old when I had my strokes. I was driving at the time in rural area. I was quite healthy especially as I had a done a triathlon a few weeks earlier. I was under stress too with work as support worker as well as caring for my dad who lived in Scarborough while i lived in Leeds.

The story of the struggles with my dad dying weeks after my stroke as well as dealing with new brain and emotions. The battles I have done but also over coming them.

In less than a year after the stroke I started working for stroke charity raising awareness of strokes in people under the age of 65. I still work for this charity part time.
I trained to be swimming teacher which I do 3 times a week now. I did triathlons including the one i did before my stroke and a ITU triathlon 9 months after my stroke. I did this on three wheels! I have also become a track official and took part in the World Masters Athletics in shot put. I have done lots of other achievements. I am an expert by experience at several universities working in raising awareness of stroke and effects with medical professionals. Fatigue and memory as well as left sided weakness is three of the biggest effects i have. I am also involved in several research projects. I have done lots of talks.. These have in schools through to universities to rotary clubs I adapt the talk to the needs of the audience.
