Andrew's talk is about his writing of 'PREZ'. Just as the sitcom ‘Gavin and Stacey’ is really about Smithy and Nessa, so the true story of Prez and football is really about being a parent of a sports-mad child. It’s also about education, athletics, justice and injustice, along with glimpses into the mind of a lawyer, all of which is revealed by Prez’s time in grassroots football and at the Nottingham Forest Academy. It is an intimate, intensely personal account that gives a remarkable insight into amateur and professional football.

There is an interesting vignette arising from some litigation between Brian Clough and Robert Maxwell. The story also involves the purchase and sale of Notts County by Alan Hardy. Other fairly well-known football people who pop up include Darren Fletcher and Gary Brazil, the Academy Manager at Nottingham Forest, who once said to Andrew, “You watch everything that goes on here.” He never spoke a truer word. Based on Andrew’s diaries and supplemented by copious anecdotes, the compelling story of Prez takes readers into the world of junior football. Readers and listeners will love PREZ – the boy, the book and the talk.

Andrew says, "The inspiration was my son. I kept extensive notes on everything that happened and there are many quotations in the book. My in-depth knowledge, which started by running a grassroots football team, gives me a comprehensive understanding of kids’ football at all levels." That is coupled with an analytical lawyer’s mind, thereby giving the reader a unique perspective on the subject.

Andrew was born in the front bedroom of 12, Tirza Avenue, Burnage, Manchester on 1st May 1964. He was educated at William Hulme’s Grammar School where his fourth form English teacher, Robert Houghton, said, “Prestwich, laddie, you’ll go a long way. But you’ll put a lot of people’s backs up getting there.” Andrew has been kicking against those in authority ever since.

Running the school newspaper and then a spoof publication at university, Andrew has always encouraged people to pay attention to what is going on around them.

He graduated in law at Birmingham University before reading for the Bar at Gray’s Inn where he was the top student, winning the Macaskie award and the Rodney Bax scholarship. He was a barrister for thirty years.

Andrew regards his finest achievement since retirement as being his unearthing of impropriety in a church school and subsequently proving malpractice on the part of a Diocesan Director of Education who had been untruthful, had invented fake legal advice, had deliberately misled a parochial church council and had concealed evidence. Solicitors engaged by the diocese to defend the Director of Education investigated the matter and were unable to deny Andrew’s allegations. In the true traditions of the Church of England, the culprit failed to apologise and the bishop declined to take any action. But that is a story for another day…

Andrew currently writes magazine articles for three motoring press publications – Spirit & Speed, RoSPA’s Care on the Road and the Vintage Sports-Car Club’s Bulletin.

Since completing 'PREZ', Andrew has taken up sprinting. He runs with Notts AC – a little slower than when he was twelve.
