A personal journey through grief, creativity, poetry and the power of words to express what we sometimes struggle to say.
Following the loss of my mother, I discovered poetry as a powerful creative outlet and a way of exploring and expressing my emotions and supporting my mental wellbeing.
My poetry journey began in 2020 under the pseudonym Sebastian Melmoth. I began writing about everyday objects, nature, places and the world around me, using them as metaphors for human emotions, feelings and experiences.
This journey led to the publication of my first poetry chapbook, As the Soul Writes: Emotion and Feelings, followed by my second collection in 2023, continuing the As the Soul Writes series. I am now working on the third instalment.
My poetry has also developed beyond the written page. Through YouTube and Instagram, I combine poetry with music and imagery to explore different ways of bringing words, emotions and stories to life.
Sebastian Melmoth – A Poetry Journey takes audiences through my personal creative journey: from discovering poetry during a difficult period in my life to becoming a published poet.
Along the way, I explore where inspiration comes from, why I chose the pseudonym Sebastian Melmoth, how I turn everyday objects and nature into metaphors for emotion, and how poetry can give us permission to express ourselves without worrying about whether we are doing it "right".
The session includes readings from my work and examples of how imagery and music can transform the experience of a poem.
Most importantly, this is an interactive talk. I finish with a friendly, accessible poetry workshop where participants are encouraged to explore their own creativity and turn thoughts, feelings, objects or observations into words.
No previous poetry or writing experience is needed.
The aim is simple: everyone leaves having discovered a little more about the power of poetry — and with their very own poetry creation.
