Bess of Hardwick is a unique and notable Elizabethan figure who climbed the social ladder and left behind an impressive legacy. This legacy was designed into Bess's monument which sits on the south side of Derby Cathedral. But why did Bess choose Derby for her final resting place? To what extent did she help to design her monument? How has it been looked after and used throughout the centuries to the present day.
