Viruses are often viewed solely as adversaries, yet they have been fundamental architects of biological evolution. In this talk, we bridge the gap between microscopic pathogenesis and deep history. Drawing on my own research in computational biology and genomic structural prediction, we will explore the "dark" side of our own DNA specifically, the ancient endogenous retroviral (ERV) elements embedded within us. We will analyze the survival of viral strains through time and examine how the battle between human biology and viral evolution has fundamentally shaped the way we exist today. This is an invitation to look behind the curtain of disease and understand how the most persistent threats have become part of our own story.
