Martin will describe his role on the day as a duty office for the Force Support Group and later as a Search Coordinator. The presentation will cover the background to the Provisional Irish Republican Army [PIRA] and UK Bombings involving Manchester. The Euro 96 Championships that was ongoing in the City at that time. The discovery of the VBIED and the evacuation of an estimated 80,000 people from the City Centre. The explosion and immediate aftermath of the bomb and the devastation of the City Centre. The reaction to the bomb and investigation. Finally the reconstruction of the City Centre. Martin’s story whilst dealing with a serious subject will tell of many humorous stories of Public reaction to being told to leave the City NOW and their response.
