About Colin Babb

I describe myself as a ‘BBC,’ a British Born Caribbean. My family are from around the Caribbean region including Guyana, Guadeloupe and Barbados.

I worked for the BBC as a radio producer, website producer, broadcast journalist, and audience services team member. Researching, producing and promoting BBC content in Albania, Hungary, Ireland, Malawi, New Zealand, Spain, Tanzania, Uganda, US, Zambia and across the UK.

I worked for the Further Education Development Agency, NHS, as a librarian for law firms and public libraries. As a teacher in Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan and Thailand. As a photographer in the Caribbean for a publishing company, and as a web editor for the public health sector, schools and universities.

I also co-managed an independent fanzine/music/record label/DJ organisation called Waaaah!/Bring on Bull.

Books written for Hansib publications:

Seen and Heard - scheduled to be published in 2026. A collection of conversations, essays, experiences, reflections and reviews. Split into five chapters – Film and television, Music, Sport, Travel and Letters.

1973 and Me (reprinted 2023) - about my life as a young boy during 1973/1970s. These include the formation of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), UK joining the European Economic Community (EEC), the 1973 Leeds United v Sunderland FA Cup final, the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, The Wailers’ first major tour of Britain, and the 1973 West Indies cricket tour of England captained by Rohan Kanhai.

They Gave the Crowd Plenty Fun (reprinted 2023) - Whether they were passionate cricket fans or not, cricket provided some of the Caribbean diaspora in Britain with an opportunity to express a collective sense of identity. They Gave the Crowd Plenty Fun reflects on events that influenced the post-Windrush development of the social impact of cricket on British Caribbean communities.
