I’m a television producer, director and journalist with over thirty years’ experience working across British television, from news and documentaries to factual entertainment and observational series. I began my career as a BBC graduate trainee and went on to work across the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, eventually becoming Head of Development at BBC Birmingham and later an Executive Producer working on a wide range of prime-time programmes.
Over the years I’ve created and produced shows including Great Canal Journeys, Celebrity 5 Go, Love Your Garden, Britain’s Poshest Farm Shops and Brits in France, working with everyone from Prunella Scales and Timothy West to Alan Titchmarsh, Tony Blackburn and Loyd Grossman. I’ve been lucky enough to win a BAFTA, a Montreux Award and receive an Emmy nomination — but just as importantly, I’ve collected a lifetime of stories that never quite made it to air.
Alongside mainstream television, I became known for immersive journalism — throwing myself into situations most people would run a mile from. What happens if you don’t wash for two months? How far should a journalist go to understand a hidden world? And what happens when you sign up to online dating with your mum, twenty years before it was normal? (Let’s just say one of us ended up with a wedding ring.)
My talks are warm, funny and full of behind-the-scenes insights into how television is really made — the mishaps, the magic, the people you meet and the moments you never see on screen. They’re designed to entertain, spark curiosity and give audiences a genuine glimpse into a world that often looks far more glamorous than it really is.
I love speaking to WI groups, Rotary Clubs and community organisations, and I’m always happy to tailor a talk to suit the audience. Expect stories, honesty, laughter — and a few “you couldn’t make it up” moments along the way.I offer a range of entertaining, insightful talks drawn from over 30 years working in British television as a producer, director and journalist.
