During the Piracy crisis off the coast of Somalia in the 2010's, the EU deployed Missions to combat the threat and try and develop capacity to provide a sustainable long term solution - with mixed results. Clive was Head of Operations for the EU Mission and is able to give a first hand account of the of the international community's efforts to provide a solution.
Views: 14 | Enquiries: 0Clive is an Ex-Army Officer who ended his career as a Lieutenant Colonel, commanding the UN Observer Mission in Georgia during the Russian Invasion in 2008. During this incursion, Clive was detained by the Russian Army and on his release was the only source of independent information from Georgia during this difficult period. Following his military service he spent 6 yours working for the Foreign Office and the EU in Georgia as Head of Operations for the Mission put in place to observe the ceasefire between Russia and Georgia. Following his time in Georgia he was deployed to East Africa as part of the Mission to combat piracy in Somalia and Djibouti. He now lives in Sussex and works in Government Satellite Communications.
