The King’s Mercenary
Meet Capt. Matthias Hawkeslade, soldier of fortune and veteran of the brutal thirty years war being fought in Europe. Now returned to England, he raises his sword for King Charles in the bitter struggle that tears the nation apart known as the English civil War 1642~1651. This is not a history lecture of dates and battles, instead it's an interactive experience where the audience joins the discussion and sees the conflict through Hawkeslade's eyes. Presented in character and full 17th century battle gear~ armour, sword, pistols etc. Bringing to life the bloody reality of a mercenary Captain during one of the most turbulent chapters of British history.
Views: 133 | Enquiries: 1I’m an amateur historian with a long-standing fascination for the English Civil War, a passion that led me onto the battlefield itself as a member of the Sealed Knot, bringing history to life through re-enactment. I have many times experienced a full bloodied charge by troops of parliamentary horse, being fired upon by companies of musketeers and even surviving a sword thrust all, thankfully, in the name of authenticity rather than hostility. I live just outside Maidstone with my wife and our formidable Newfoundland dog, who seems determined to uphold his own royalist cause.
