A talk about a gentleman known as "Some Mother's Son". Some Mother's Son was sadly found dead in a farmer's field West of Plymouth in the UK, in 1982. To date he remains unidentified. He is presumed to have been in the merchant navy.

I have been researching the circumstances of the discovery of his body since October of 2024 and am keen to share the story in case there are relatives, friends, and or workmates who are still looking for this gentleman over 45 years later. There are various 'clues' that I hope will draw the story closer to finding his identity and I invite audiences to listen to "Some Mother's Son"'s story, as we presently know it.

The investigation has led to another story, and that is the story of Tommy Jones, an 18 year old British chef who went overboard the cruiseliner SS.Northern Star in the English channel, between Plymouth and Roscoff (in France) on the evening of the 14th June 1975. With the cooperation of Tommy's sister we are trying to piece together what happened that night. The family have had no help in 51 years, until now.

We have recently been filmed for both stories and all being well the two stories will gain a much bigger audence in the coming weeks.

The talk will be the story about the search for the two gentleman, one without a name and a buried body, the other, Tommy, with a name, and no body.

Both of these gentleman were in the merchant navy

About Simon Owens

Hi, 62 year old UK citizen and a cabinet maker by trade. I have travelled and worked abroad quite a lot over the years and have often come into contact with the Missing Persons field. Since last year, (2024), I have started to specialise in the Unidentified Body field and at present am concentrating on trying to help find the identity of a gentleman known as "Some Mother's Son". Some Mother's Son was sadly found dead in a farmer's field at Tregantle, West of Plymouth, (UK) in the year 1982. To date he has not been identified and is buried in Horson Cemetery, Torpoint, Cornwall. I gave a talk to local Torpoint residents in February of this year and have another talk scheduled for 9th February 2026 at Plymouth Methodist Central Hall, East Lake Street Plymouth. PL1 1BA I am keen to spread the story and the known details of "Some Mother's Son", and welcome venues and audiences throughout the UK who feel they would like to also try and help identify him, and hopefully reunite his memory with family, friends and workmates. Also now searching for any potential remains of Tommy Jones, who went overboard the Northern Star cruise liner on June 14th 1975. Please do get in touch if this interests you. Thank you.
