Space Warfare, once considered a matter of fiction, born out of the Cold War period, has now evolved into a reality of Military Strategy within the expanding domain frontiers of technology, and geopolitical rivalry between nations in the outer-cosmos where the control of space is seen as an essential strategic element of defence to underpin modern day National Security and Technological Dominance, and will consider the United States and the Soviet Union (the then, USSR) developed Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Weapons, designed to target and destroy enemy satellites assets.

We will consider the capabilities of eyes-in-the-sky, the value and sensitivity of Ephemeris Data, the Sentinel Project, and the defensive posture of NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) found nestling under the natural fortification of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado, USA - a location I have personally visited.

This talk explores the historical evolution of SatCom capabilities, and contemporary technologies such as the Russian Persona and Kondor series, and their precursor Yantar and Zenit series, employed for Intelligence Gathering and Military Surveillance, and will also encompass the US Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) acquired by the Talent Keyhole (TK) Satellites.
