He has written for most newspapers and gardening magazines, along with many lifestyle, customer and trade titles. Over the years he has written columns in Sainsbury’s Magazine, Saga Magazine and Grand Designs Magazine, and was gardening columnist with The Mail on Sunday for 17 years. Television includes Channel 4’s SuperScrimpers and working as a guest expert on live shopping TV (QVC, Ideal World, TJC and Bid TV). He is the author of 11 books, including The Veg Growers’ Almanac, The Gardener’s Yearbook and RHS Plants in Pots. He's a competent, reliable and popular speaker, answers gardening questions on BBC Radio Solent and was named garden journalist of the year twice (2016 and 2022) in the Property Press Awards. He was formerly on the staff at Gardenlife, Gardeners’ World Magazine, Amateur Gardening, e-garden.co.uk and Horticulture Week.
