This illustrated presentation is an insight into the highly specialised little know profession of maritime pilotage. Pilts navigate ships of all shapes and sizes into and out of ports globally. The talk covers all aspects of the profession, including its history and applicable legislation (UK) as well as some of the day to day hazards and experiences pilots encounter. 29 years experience as a Port of London pilot underpins the background knowledge.
Views: 220 | Enquiries: 5After 47 years maritime experience as ship master, port pilot and maritime consultant. I am now applying that experience in support of Mercy Ships to explain and describe the services provided by the charity, its history and evolution, how the organisation works and the diverse ways that you can support and even participate if you wish to.
In addition I present on a number of other maritime subjects - The story behind the 2021 grounding of the Ultra Large container ship Ever Given in the Suez Canal. Also an insight into the world of ship pilotage internationally and its importance to global maritime trade.
There is no charge for the talks but a donation to Mercy Ships ( including enough to cover my basic travel expenses) would be very much appreciated.
