Place names. We see and use them every day, but how often do we stop and wonder what they mean?

When we do , we normally find that they largely make no sense.

This talk goes through their origins and meanings as well as the fascinating history behind them.

About Andrew Mowbray BSc. (Hons.), MSc

Hello! My name is Andrew and I give talks on astronomy and local history. I am also a fully qualified tour guide and I give walking tours in the City of Colchester in Essex.

I was Secretary and Webmaster of the Castle Point Astronomy Club for 15 years from 2005 to 2020. I have also been Webmaster for the Rochford Hundred Field Archaeology Club since 2019.

I am retired IT Professional who worked mainly in local government. I also taught IT for several years.

I am a former planetarium presenter.

I love sharing my interest in astronomy and local history with anyone who will listen!
