How tragedy, bravery and generosity have shaped the RNLI to what it is today!

This talk is an inspirational history of lifesaving at sea and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution from 1790 to the present day and how volunteers have braved all weathers and shown immense courage to save over 141,000 lives.

The talk can be adapted in length to suit your meeting needs.

Physical presentations are with Powerpoint, videos and a professional sound system. I provide all my own equipment including screen.

Presentations can also be given online by Zoom

The length of the presentations can be tailored to Speaker Secretary’s requirements.

About David Hastings

Enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable, David is a multi award winning charity fundraiser and brings 47 years of RNLI fundraising experience.

David is the long serving Hon. Secretary of the Durham Branch of the RNLI, a small but highly effective, award-winning, inland fundraising Branch, based in the City of Durham, which organises fundraising events and activities in the Durham, Washington and Newcastle areas.

David has given over 300 community presentations so far, to a wide variety of audiences, including Rotary Clubs, WI's, U3A Clubs, Church Groups, Men's Forums, Health Support Groups and History Societies.

David has organised over 650 RNLI fundraising events and activities in the last 22 years, which have contributed to Durham Branch raising over £500,000 for the RNLI in that time.

In the 2017 National Fundraising Awards (which cover the whole of the charity and voluntary sectors across the whole country) David was one of four shortlisted nominees by the Institute of Fundraising (IoF) for the “Best Volunteer Fundraiser” award.

In the 2019 North East Charity Awards, the North East business and charity communities voted David to receive the "Volunteer Of The Year" award.

In the 2024 New Year's Honours list, His Majesty King Charles III awarded David a British Empire Medal for his 47 years of voluntary service to the RNLI.
