I explain the continuing theory of the four humours, show the changes that came about during this period and demonstrate the developing skill of the surgeon. Live leeches add the eeeek factor of some of this talk. While it is not possible for these sessions to be too ‘hands on’ – or should that be ‘hands off’? - audience participation is encouraged where a vict …oops!… volunteer is called for and questions are answered with relish – or is that just fake blood? This talk has now been adapted for ZOOM.

About Steve Bacon

I am a retired Primary School teacher, and my initial specialism was science, however, I have for many years developed a passion for history and over 20 years ago started my business, Live’n History. I have extensive experience of delivering presentations in museums including: undertaking research for the Wellcome Library and developing several of their video conferencing packages; consultancy work for a drama presentation for the Royal College of Physicians in addition to presentations at The National Army Museum, The Wellcome Collection, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, The Royal Armouries (Fort Nelson), English Heritage, The National Trust, The Museum of London, Historic Royal Palaces, The Historic Medical Equipment Society, Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust and other heritage sites. I have appeared as an expert on TV in 'Royal Deaths and Diseases' - Lion TV for Channel 4, 'Time Team' - Channel 4, 'Inside the Body of Henry VIII' - National Geographic, 'Creepy healers' - National Geographic, 'Empire of Insects' - National Geographic, and 'Regency Houseparty' - Wall to Wall for Channel 4. I have developed a series of characters and presentations for interest groups, often on the darker side of life in the past. All my presentations are well researched and resourced so you can be sure that the things I say and do are as historically accurate as I can make them.
