The City of London's Livery Companies are, with the Crown and Church, one of three institutions that predate the Norman Conquest. Today there are 110 Livery Companies in the City of London, and 32 new ones have formed since World War II.
The City's Livery Companies are unique civic, social, philanthropic and occupational associations that maintain a bewildering array of connections with trade; craft and profession; the Church; the Armed Forces; with Education; Charity and the government of the City of London.
These unique British institutions continue to play a vital and relevant role in the 21st century yet are largely unknown outside the ranks of their membership.
