Peter Slater is a semi-retired BBC Sports Reporter.

In more than 40 years as a Sports Reporter, working in both Commercial Radio and then for the BBC National Sports Unit, I've met, interviewed, and been forgotten by many of sports most famous people. I've been assaulted by a world motor racing champion, been confronted by a drunken Brian Clough and been granted an audience with the most famous man in the world. I also convinced a BBC audience that an air conditioning unit in a French hotel sounded like a helicopter. Although football is my first love ( I still report regularly for Radio 5Live and BBC Final Score) I spent 8 years covering Formula One, and I've worked on the Tour De France 5 times, culminating in Bradley Wiggins win in 2012. In 2016 I worked for a month at the Olympic Games in Rio. Many of my stories are described in my book " Don't You Know Who I Am...35 years being ignored by Sports Rich and Famous ", which has recently been reprinted. I've talked to many Probus Groups, as well as Rotary and Round Table. I'm more than happy to work at Charter Dinners and possess a dinner suit !

About Peter Slater

I'm a retired BBC Sports Reporter and Producer . I have two very different talks on offer. I wrote a book about my experiences, it's called "Don't You Know Who I Am? ( 45 years being ignored by Sports Rich And Famous) and my talks are based on the book. They involve close encounters with people like Brian Clough, Geoffrey Boycott, Muhammad Ali and Mika Hakkinen plus stories of life in the Premier League, Formula One and The Tour De France. I live in North Derbyshire so I'm happy to travel a reasonable distance for a fee( usually around £50 ) plus travelling expenses, although this is all negotiable. The North and the Midlands would be the most likely, although I've recently done talks as far afield as Watford and Spain ! I now have a second talk. Called "Do I Know Who I Am?" it details my search for my birth family. I've been doing talks for around six years now, to groups of men ( Probus/Rotary) women ( Ladies Circle/ Friendship Groups and mixed groups ( U3A.) I can do annual dinners and lunches as well as informal get togethers. I really enjoy meeting people, and they seem to enjoy meeting me, so I you fancy an amusing hour with lots of anecdotes I could be your man.
