He was the only Senior International Officer present on the ground during the Russian invasion. He was arrested by the Russian forces during the initial phase of the war, though continued operations throughout.

He has a unique insight into this conflict, the lessons of which were NOT learned by western governments, resulting in the subsequent Crimean and Ukrainian conflicts.

About Clive Trott

A former British Army Officer (Lt Col), Clive is able to speak on a variety of specific subjects, most notably:

  1. 'Don't Poke the Bear'! - The 2008 War in Georgia, the Russian Invasion. Clive was commanding the UN Observer force as a seconded British Army Officer for the duration of the conflict. He was the only Senior International Officer present on the ground during the Russian invasion. He was arrested by the Russian forces during the initial phase of the war, though continued operations throughout.

  2. Somali Piracy and the International Community's efforts to combat the threat. Clive was Chief of Staff for the EU anti-piracy mission based in Mogadishu. He was responsible for training and developing the Somali Coast Guard and Maritime Police in one of the most challenging security environments on earth.

  3. Promoting Peace & Building Confidence - Georgia 2008-2014 Following the 2008 war in Georgia, Clive was seconded by the UK Foreign Office to the EU Monitoring Mission as Head of Operations overseeing the ceasefire between all warring parties. In this role he was a regular interlocutor for Russian, Abkhaz and Ossetian politicians and military personnel and was a regular participant at the Geneva Peace Talks.

Despite an apparent military background, Clive is able to hold an audience as he trained as an actor prior to joining the army.
