He was the only Senior International Officer present on the ground during the Russian invasion. He was arrested by the Russian forces during the initial phase of the war, though continued operations throughout.
He has a unique insight into this conflict, the lessons of which were NOT learned by western governments, resulting in the subsequent Crimean and Ukrainian conflicts.

Promoting Peace & Building Confidence - Georgia 2008-2014 Following the 2008 war in Georgia, Clive was seconded by the UK Foreign Office to the EU Monitoring Mission as Head of Operations overseeing the ceasefire between all warring parties. In this role he was a regular interlocutor for Russian, Abkhaz and Ossetian politicians and military personnel and was a regular participant at the Geneva Peace Talks.
Despite an apparent military background, Clive is able to hold an audience as he trained as an actor prior to joining the army.
