Largely led by his audience, Stuart 'The Wildman' Mabbutt discusses wildlife gardening - a method of environmentally friendly gardening, that inspires people to coexist with the natural world and the living beings that make it their home, by building food webs from the plants and insects up. Stuart discusses how we can attract wildlife into our gardens and begin to appreciate it better through the use of our senses, exploring our own psychology and sociology.

He asks us to see instead of look, hear instead of listen, feel instead of touch, smell instead of sniff, and taste instead of eat. Guest speakers often appear alongside Stuart to enhance the experience at no extra cost. Stuart is based in Oxford, Oxfordshire, and he and any guest speakers will travel anywhere.

About Stuart Mabbutt

Based in Oxford, Oxfordshire, Stuart 'The Wildman' Mabbutt is a professional wildlife gardener who has been bringing razzmatazz to the concept of environmental learning since 1988. Occasionally joined by a special guest, and often directly involving the audience, ‘The Wildman’ is available to deliver a wide range of engaging talks to your club, organisation, or after-dinner speaker event. The Wildman explores a wide range of ideas relating to nature, philosophy, climate, sustainability, social justice, and the human condition through these speaker events, but also various other mediums, giving his listeners and viewers the space to consider the big issues of the day. Alongside photographer William Mankelow, he co-hosts The People’s Countryside Environmental Debate Podcast, which was established in 2018 and at the end of 2023 is heading towards 200k total listens, and its 500th episode.

Stuart has also been hosting the radio show Going Wild with Wildlife since 2010, and is an accomplished writer, having first been published in 1998. Over the years, ‘The Wildman’ has developed a diverse portfolio of poetry, and continues to write to this day, producing articles for a variety of magazines and releasing a series of books in both paperback an ebook formats.

Stuart also leads sensory walks in nature for organisations, businesses, families and individuals, with the premium deluxe service being a family walk with a professionally produced commemorative photo album. Off the back of the guided walks which Stuart is currently struggling to do, due to the need of a wheelchair the WOW Effect has been launched.

The WOW Effect (or Wildman on Wheels) refers to the idea that ‘The Wildman’, as a mobility impaired nature educator, is having to use wheelchairs to get around more often. Through The WOW Effect, ‘The Wildman’ aims to broaden people’s understanding of what it means for green spaces to be accessible, balancing this with the wild elements of nature which we value so highly.
