This talk is the story of my “hands on” experience of working on, and living with these marine monsters during my time as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in the 1970's. Although this talk may sound a little dry, it contains many anecdotes of a humorous nature to keep non engineers entertained.

“Richard came to Mendip Valley (Cheddar) Probus Club recently, to talk about the Doxford Engine and it can be said, without exaggeration or hyperbole of any kind, that he captivated the audience from the first minute. His knowledge and enthusiasm, combined with his warm personality ensured that it was a memorable experience. Our Probus Club includes several ex-engineers; one of whom pronounced Richard’s talk as “the most interesting he had ever heard”. If you are looking for an engaging, accomplished, witty speaker, search no longer.”
