In 2002, Jane Walker travelled to the Philippines on a sabbatical from her work, she discovered the Pier 18 dump site in Manila where hundreds of children were both living and working. The sight of the children working instead of being nurtured in school, shocked Jane to her core and reminded her how she felt when her parents asked her to leave their home before she had time to finish her education. Jane was determined to give the children the chance of an education and the opportunity to change their own futures.
Jane started two charities, one in the UK to raise funds for a charity she started in the Philippines, over the years Jane and her amazing team have developed highly successful poverty reduction programs for disenfranchised communities in some of the worst slums in Manila.
Janes story is about how she used her life experiences to end child labor on the Manila dump site and has gone with her team to help thousands of families achieve their dreams.
Following her fantastic work, she was awarded an MBE in 2009 and won the Woman of the Year UK award in 2010, and Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary in 2012.
