Explore life as a maker and what it's like to work backstage in a world class theatre.
Go behind the scenes and learn about the techniques and processes used to create props and artefacts that help bring a performance to life. You may not have thought about how these items are created or the skills and work that are employed, but here you will see stages of work in process and interact with some of the items themselves.
Zoe will give you an insight into her career in the arts and the challenges a maker faces, along with sharing the magic of working in such an environment. She will share her passion for the arts and for true craft skills, and explain why she feels the arts and wellbeing go hand in hand.
In true 'Jill of all trades' nature, transferable skills are key, and in this talk we explore the versatility and diversity of the arts.Views: 20 | Enquiries: 0
My passion is making and the arts! I have been very lucky that my career has enabled me to combine these passions and work with some incredible talents.
I began my career freelancing as a prop maker before I went to work fulltime at the Royal Opera House for over 15 years, working my way up to Head Armourer. During my career I have worked with a wide variety of designers, directors, performers, composers and other clients to realise ideas and briefs into reality. I have toured with the Royal Ballet and have made some incredible items for both ballet and opera.
I have recently returned to freelancing as a maker and also provide practical hands on workshops teaching traditional craft skills and exploring the benefits of art and well being. I have devised and provide schools workshops that introduce the arts and traditional making skills to students and offers an insight into alternative and creative career paths.
I continue to make for stage and individual custom designs.
Zoe is a lifelong professional and creative in the arts world, a highly motivated maker, manager and workshop provider who has worked with a wide variety of designers, directors, performers, composers and other clients to realise ideas and briefs into reality.
